Nursery Day

Caroline went to nursery for the first time. It did not go well. Kevin took her into the nursery room and she went straight to the toys. I had to teach Sunday School, but apparently Caroline only lasted about 10 minutes when she realized that we were not in the room. The nursery leaders tried to comfort her and give her a snack but she was having none of it. Kevin was standing in the hallway and came in to sit with her. She put a death grip on him and would not let go. He finally took her out. When I got done with my class I decided to try it again. We went back in and she sat in my lap for a minute and then she decided to join the others for a snack. She sat and colored and played for awhile, but every now and then she would glance up to see if I was still there. She did much better with me in the room. Kevin and I have decided that we are going to treat this like we did when we helped her learn to put her self to sleep. That was a long hard week, but it was worth it. I know that as time goes on she will come to love nursery.

Back in the ATL

We got back home on Tuesday. It was a long ride but Caroline was great. We only stopped for lunch. The last hour of the trip was hard but we managed by singing every kid song I knew. She loved it.
We had a great time at home. I decided to go home a few days early because I felt I was getting the flu. Thank goodness it wasn't, but it was a bad cold. I was worried that Caroline would get my cold but she didn't. We had fun hanging out with everyone and swinging on DeeDee's swing. Here are a few pictures.

Where did I go wrong?

I figured out how to make a video with my camera. Enjoy!

Watch out for the first step. It's a doozie!

I fell. I fell down my stairs and I sprained my ankle. It was only the last 4 steps but it still hurt. I had Caroline in my arms but she is ok. She was scared and began crying because I was crying. Thanks goodness Kevin was there. He has been going to a clinical sight during the week so he actually was there. He quickly put a frozen bag of veggies on my ankle. That really helped. I watched the wonderful Super Bowl from my hospital bed (the couch) with my leg propped up. Caroline, of course, decided she wanted to pick that time to crawl all over me. Kevin took today off to help me out. I made myself get up and walk a little bit and do things for myself. After Kevin left I put Caroline to bed and that went ok. Of course while I am hobbling around I will forget and turn it a certain way and it will hurt but I can manage.

Bowl Licker

I have reached the level of "best mom in the world." I taught Caroline the fine art of licking the beaters and a bowl after baking. It is a fine art and Caroline did a great job. I would give her little tastes of the brownies I was baking. Of course she was hooked. After that she couldn't get enough. So when I finally put the brownies in the oven I put a little bit of the batter left on the spoon and let her go to town. She was a pro. She licked that spoon clean!

Wordplay

It is amazing how fast Caroline is growing up. One minute she is tripping over her own feet, the next she is learning how to walk down the stairs. One day she is taking calculated steps toward me, the next she is running away from Kevin because he is chasing her. Next month she will go to nursery during church. I am excited that I get to go to class and not have to wrestle with her, but I am starting to feel some separation anxiety. Will she be OK? What if she gets tired? What if she is sleepy? I bet that she will have so much fun she won't even remember my name.
Caroline is also talking so much more. She can say "nose, shoes, and cheese." Of course it sounds more like "no, oos, and eez." The fact isn't that Caroline is talking more, it is just that my translation skills are getting better. She understands so much more. I can ask her to get Lambchop off her chair and she walks right over and does it. She is getting more and more independent. She can do so many things on her own now. My baby is growing up.
